LZ7 Development Update

Published on 23rd August, 2016

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted any updates about the progress on the case design itself, I have been working hard on preparing the second prototype.

PROTOTYPE v0.2

The good news is the design is complete and prototype v0.2 has been ordered!  It is expected to be ready in about 1 – 2 weeks, I will post further updates and photos once I’ve had some time to build it up and carry out some testing.  The prototype has been ordered in black to show an alternate colour scheme vs the current white v0.1.

NEW FEATURES

The main change is an increase in case height to allow for extra tall GPU’s that are becoming more popular with card manufactures, such as the Gigabyte GTX 1070 OC ITX, the tallest card yet with a height of 131mm.  The case still retains its sub 7 litre volume, the depth of the case has been reduced slightly to compensate with a maximum GPU length of 186mm, plenty of room to fit almost any ITX GPU.

There are also a few other last minute feature additions including dust filter compatibility on the GPU side, and the option to screw on HiFi style case feet.

NEW CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

As part of this prototype I have ordered some extra panels with a slightly different design for the left side panel (intake fan side), this panel includes slotted vents to cover the fan for those that prefer not to use an external dust filter.

I am also looking into the option to offer a lower priced version of the case that does not include USB and Audio side ports.  This configuration will have a hole cut-out for fitting your own 16mm power switch such as Vandall and Bulgin power switches that are commonly used with custom cases.

OTHER NEWS

I posted a full build of the LZ7 on PCPartPicker, it includes a list of all the components used for the Prototype v0.1, coming in at a very respectable £1,108.  There was an overwhelming amount of positive feedback received for the case, thank you to all who left a comment.  The build can be found HERE.

This build was also shared on REDDIT where it received a great reception.

Thank you to everyone for all the support and feedback I’ve been receiving, it really does make all the effort worth it.
